How growing works

Every pellet you eat adds a little mass, and mass is everything. A bigger cell can swallow more, but it also moves slower, so the game keeps changing as you grow. Above 150 mass your cell slowly loses mass over time, which stops the leader from camping in a corner and keeps the arena moving. You always have a reason to hunt.

Eat smaller, avoid bigger

The rule is simple: you can eat a cell that is about 25% smaller than you. Colors and emoji skins do not matter, only size does. Watch the radar in the top left corner to spot big players before they reach you, and split to snap up a smaller cell that tries to escape. Splitting cuts you in half, though, so a bigger player can now eat your pieces. Timing is the whole skill.

Tips for your first game

• Spend the first minute on pellets. A 3 second spawn shield protects you while you look around.
• Stay near the green viruses while you are small. Big cells cannot chase you through them without bursting.
• Do not split when a bigger cell is close. Your halves are easy food.
• Feed a virus seven times with W to shoot a new one at a big enemy.
• Boost to escape, but remember that it burns mass.

Eat-and-grow games are satisfying because progress is visible.
